Exporters and producers within the NAFTA Territory are faced with having to determine whether the goods they produce and sell are “originating” under NAFTA. This can be a confusing and time-consuming process. This program will discuss the principles of tariff classification, how to identify, interpret and apply the appropriate Rule of Origin and how to complete the NAFTA Certificate of Origin. The presenters will use several “real world” examples to help illustrate these often confusing principles. Please bring your HS number if you wish to ask specific questions. The speakers will also explain some of the most common errors in completing NAFTA Certificates of Origin and ways to avoid them.

Complying with U.S. Export Controls

Lancaster Convention Center

Lancaster, PA

The two-day program is led by BIS's professional counseling staff and provides an in-depth examination of the EAR. The program will cover the information exporters need to know to comply with U.S. export control requirements on commercial goods. We will focus on what items and activities are subject to the EAR; steps to take to determine the export licensing requirements for your item; how to determine your export control classification number (ECCN); when you can export or re-export without applying for a license; export clearance procedures and record keeping requirements; an overview of the Export Compliance Management Program (ECMP) concepts; and real life examples in applying this information. Presenters will conduct a number of "hands-on" exercises that will prepare you to apply the regulations to your own company's export activities. This program is well suited for those who need a comprehensive understanding of their obligations under the EAR. Technical, policy, and enforcement professionals from BIS, as well as specialists from other agencies such as the Office of Foreign Assets Control and the Bureau of Census will participate in certain programs.
